The exhibition centered around the interplay between outside and inside, a dialogue that was reflected in Kühnemann’s work as well as in its presentation in the Pavillon am Michhof. A seven times three meters big forest seemed to be implanted into the exhibition space directly from its natural setting. The leafless trees seemed to change their colors depending on the time of the day: lightening yellow and brown, pale grey and rose, strong orange and lila.
In the first part of the exhibition Woods in House Kühnemann combined wood and big scale interiors. The latter are painted in warm oil colors on wood. At times, the grain of the wood stays visible or the grain itself becomes part of the structure of the painting.
In the second part of the exhibition, Erimitage, the interiors were replaced by an exterior view on a winterly house and a group of figures. The connection of naturally grown and artificially created things and human presence posed questions about the embedment and rootedness of the individual in its surrounding.
