schir – art concepts, Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design and the Goethe Institut Jerusalem invited artists living and working in Germany to apply for a residency in Jerusalem in spring 2011.
Claire Waffel has been chosen from the many applications to be the first Gateway artist.
The residency program allows her to experience the urban context of Jerusalem, to connect to the Israeli art scene and to work freely for three months. Claire Waffel will receive living quarters and a studio space in Jerusalem for three months. A team of art professionals will assist her in practical aspects of the stay and introduce her to the art scene. Furthermore, the artist will become part of the thriving department of photography at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, participating in activities and entering in a dialogue with faculty and students through workshops or talks. In addition, she will have a single exhibition in the beautiful exhibition space Yaffo 23 in the center of Jerusalem and take part in different events by the Goethe-Institut.
