Miriam Vlaming lives and works in Berlin. She studied at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig between 1994 and 1999 and as guest student at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in 1999. Miriam Vlaming finished her studies in painting and graphics with distinction and was in the master class of Arno Rink until 2001. Her works were shown in exhibitions in Germany, China, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, the US and the UK.
Miriam Vlaming paints large scale canvases with egg tempera, gloomy colours washed out and combined with drippings and writing. Layers of paint create a depth, which mirrors human experience and memory, sometimes like a dream, sometimes turning into a nightmare. Humans and spaces shown in the works are in constant change, a transition between figurative painting and abstraction. While human figures and living spaces are a starting point, over the course of painting they dissolve in the background, overgrown by nature and transformed into memories.
