The exhibition Beyond Eden concentrates on the utopian ideas of the kibbutzim in the year of their 101st birthday, it explores the architectural, societal and cultural processes and examines them in relation to the geopolitical developments in Israel.
An artist and a political scientist embark on the search for the fragmentary image of a forgone present, a utopian past and a collective, fragmentary identity in which the boundaries between times and ideologies overlap and blur together. Metaphorical and physical boundaries between spaces, but also between utopia and reality, history and the present, individual and collective, are negotiated in poetic images and text. The people absent in Stephanie Kloss’ photos comment on their spatial realities in the passages edited by Antonia Blau, in which they express their personal recollections, feelings and projections regarding architecture and politics.
After a residency in Israel first results will be presented in a exhibition at Galerie Laura Mars in Berlin from May 28th to June 18th 2011. In 2012 a publication and an exhibition in Israel will follow.
