Even before finishing his studies at HfG Offenbach in 1999, Michael Hoepfel was one of the founders of the media-laboratory “meso” in Frankfurt/Main, where he explored creative possibilities of digital technologies. From 2005 different works in collaboration with Jenny Michel were produced. Since 2006 he lives and works in Berlin. In the course of his teaching position for computeraided fashion design at Kunsthochschule Weissensee from 2009 to 2010 and the temporary job as head of Künstlerhaus Bethanien in 2011 he continued experimenting with new media throughout his career.
Hoepfel works in different media. His work consists of pictures, videos, objects and installations and combines digital and craft techniques. Topics are often approached by several connected pieces of work. The examination of the relation between body and symbol, between real and imaginary space comes up again and again, just like the exploration of the groundworks of scientific methodology.
