Johanna Reich studied from 2000 – 2007 at the Kunstakademie Münster with professors Guillaume Bijl and Andreas Köpnick as well as at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Hamburg with professor Wim Wenders. Following she completed postgraduate studies at the Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln. In 2006 she received the Nam June Paik Award and in 2009 the supporting award of the state of NRW for media arts. Her works were presented in numerous exhibitions in Germany and abroad, for example in the Wallraf-Richartz Museum Köln, the Centre Pompidou Paris and in the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography
Johanna Reich works with different media such as video, photography and installation, with an emphasis on video performances over the last two years. Using the camera as a counterpart, Reich literally and metaphorically plays with the camera, deceives it and questions its image.
